Inaugural
So this is it. The first post. After much delay (and tinkering with various bits of software) I've launched the blog. I've taken great pleasure in writing the code myself - I wouldn't be caught dead using Wordpress for my personal site :) - it's based on Django, hosted on Debian, served with Apache. Yep, open-source rules.
I'm writing this from a BA flight to London - I'm going to the @media Ajax conference which starts tomorrow. I've never been to London, so I'm really looking forward to a nice trip. I'll write a bit about the conference itself as it happens. As for London itself, I simply must see the Apple store on Regent Street (the biggest, greatest one in Europe, right?). For those who don't know me, I'm a big Apple fan.
I've only been on a plane twice, and I was 8 years old back then; it's a much bumpier experience than I expected. Not that I'm complaining - I'm just sorry that I'm not flying the damn thing myself :)
So, welcome to the blog and the site, hope you like it. I'll be adding more "stuff" soon - things that didn't make the cut for the "first post" moment. There will be a nice tag could in the sidebar, a "recommendations" box where I will link to various cool stuff that I think you might want to see, and maybe a "cool geeky stuff" section where I link to entertaining things like xkcd and youtube movies like this one. Of course, there will be RSS feeds (well, technically, they'll be ATOM 1.0, not RSS) as soon as I get the chance to make them happen.
Ah, the in-flight breakfast. Goota love British Airways. :)
