Road Trip, Part 1
Yesterday evening Raluca and I set out on a road trip. Our plan is to visit a few cities in Transylvania (Braşov, Cluj, Sibiu, Deva) in the space of a week – a good balance between driving around and enjoying places.
Lesson one: you can plan accomodations in advance on the internet. Several sites list hotels and guesthouses, with user ratings. Guesthouses especially are nice and friendly and reasonably-priced.
The first leg brought us to Braşov, via Târgovişte and Câmpulung. The Rucăr-Bran road was most interesting, narrow and hilly and swirving, at night. My little Fiat performed beautifully, better than I hoped actually, on the curves and climbs. We're staying at Casa Cristina, a cozy guesthouse in Braşov. They have WiFi, it's very nice inside, good food, great service – highly recommended. Only one drawback: the place is at the end of a long, narrow, unpaved road.
Lesson two: GPS navigators have come a long way. Maps are accurate, UIs are easy to use, and they're surprisingly useful for getting around. I dind't expect maps for Romania to be so good, but apparently GPS navigators are selling like hotcakes, so there's obviously strong demand.
Today we're off to Cluj, visiting Sighişoara on the way. Expect pictures. :)
